Three Fourths Home is undeniably itself (feat. *SPOILERS*)

Image
Hey there, it's Menow. Three Fourths Home , a micro-visual novel from [bracket]games and Zach Sanford, was on ultra sale on the Nintendo Switch eShop around Christmastime. I was extremely sick, I had Gold Points to burn, so I forked over my golden dues alongside twenty American cents and fired this baby up. The title screen is so clean look at it The game opens on a rainy evening in Nebraska. My name's Kelly. I'm driving a car. My own hands must hold the right trigger to accelerate, and if I let go, I decelerate until the whole game comes to a stop. The dialogue ceases, the car doesn't move. When I accelerate again, everything resumes. This was neat at first, but then I was holding the accelerator for I don't know, 10 straight minutes? Applying strangely-angled pressure for that long was irritating at best. As I drive, I'm on the phone with my family. Relationships are testy since I left for college a few years ago. I don't call home much, but now...

Hey, how are you liking WARFRAME?

Image
Hey there, it's Menow. WARFRAME is not a game I was planning to pick up. There are guns. And a reticle. But it's free right now on the Switch eShop, and my pals are playing it! Since I Fight for my Friends ™, I'm giving it an honest try. Much to my surprise I do not hate it . SUP TENNO I chose the Excalibur warframe to start, as I favor loud, melee combat styles. I played the tutorial blind and I made it through just fine. I only wish I knew beforehand which weapons to choose initially. I foolishly picked the bow and arrow because it was pretty and I wanted to feel like Susan from The Chronicles of Narnia , even though I certainly am not a stealth player. Very soon after I built the market, I spent all my credits on the Braton so I could spray bullets instead of trying too hard. This is the gun that I have! I think Apparently there is some lore in this game, but so far I've been too busy trying to keep track of what my abilities are and how to use th...

I (sort of) played (almost) every Kingdom Hearts game this year

Image
Hey there, it's Menow. In the summer of 2018, I mentioned to my good friend and avid Kingdom Hearts fan that I wanted to play Kingdom Hearts III . He said that in order to understand what was going on in III, I really needed to have played every game in the series. Naturally, I went to Best Buy right then and purchased Kingdom Heart 1.5+2.5 ReMIX alongside Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Mix, the two discs containing all of the hot sweet lore I had been missing all these years. Looking back on this moment, I realize now that a normal person would hear my friend's comment and think something like, "Oh I'm sure I'll be fine, I can just read a wiki and catch up." I am not a normal person. I mean, I knew I was gonna love this. If you aren't familiar with these discs, they contain all previously released Kingdom Hearts content in one form or another. There is...a lot of content. Here's a list of it: Kingdom Hearts Final Mix (game) Kingdom ...

I'm not hip enough to play Oxenfree, but somehow I did

Image
Hey there, it's Menow. I just beat Oxenfree on my Nintendo Switch. I don't think I meet whatever pre-determined coolness requirements exist to play it, but I somehow made it through. Look how cool it is. In case Oxenfree isn't on your radar - LOL PUNS - it's a pretty rad indie game developed and published by Night School Studio in 2016. Originally released for PC, Mac, and Xbox One, it made its Switch - as well as its iOS and Android - debut last year. You navigate this game as Alex, a 17-year-old girl with (presumably natural) turquoise hair. It is really challenging to find pics of this game that aren't spoilers. You're welcome. Alex decides to go to this secluded island rager that apparently the junior class does every year, except this year most of the class is grounded. The only people who show up are Alex, her pot-smoking bffl, her brand new stepbrother she literally just met, her dead brother's ex-girlfriend, and her dead-brother...

Hey! Pikmin is cute af, and fun until like world six

Image
Hey there, it's Menow. I beat Hey! Pikmin on my beloved New 3DS XL last week, and I have mixed feelings. (Slight spoilers ahead if you're a person who likes to play a game without ever having seen/heard anything about it.) Feeling 1: It's cute af.  The cuteness is harming me. Look at that image. The colors, the little chicken enemy dude, all the Pikmin bouncing around, carrying stuff, having a grand time with our pal Olimar. It's cute af. Feeling 2: The puzzles are genuinely fun for most of the game. The levels are just challenging enough where I don't feel like a complete life failure because I can't win, but I also have to use my brain a little bit and sometimes have to try twice or more to succeed.  Feeling 3: The collectibles are 100%. Reading Olimar's "captain's log" type entries fill out the game and make me love Olimar even more. But like seriously look at this. Gurl, you know I love treasure. And Hey! Pik...

I tried the VOEZ Demo on Switch and iOS

Image
Hey there, it's Menow. I moderately like rhythm games, I fanatically like Nintendo Switch, and I consistently like anime garbage. Of course I downloaded this demo. My first thought was, "Why is this phone game $30?" but I quickly realized there are in-app purchases on iOS and Android, so of course it's $30 for the whole game at once on the eShop. Visually, it's very pretty. Much prettier than like the one other rhythm game I played four or five iPhone generations ago. As far as my actual gameplay experience, it was kind of awkward. I wasn't sure how to hold the slightly-too-heavy Switch in my left hand comfortably while poising to tap, swipe, and press with my right. I figured there had to be a better way to do it, so I watched some videos of people playing the game and it looks like most players worth anything play two-handed, like this champion: After a mediocre Switch experience, I downloaded the iOS version on my iPhone 7 Plus out of ...

I have played Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for 137 hours and counting

Image
Hey there, it's Menow. As always, no spoilers. I somehow have yet to complete the story? I have acquired all story-obtainable blades, and am praying to RNGesus for the last five I am missing. The completion compulsion is strong here, which I think will lead me to play this game longer than I have played any game, including my game of all games, Persona 5 . Tora will do it. Tora will show them.
